The launch of the UK’s first all-electric concrete mixer truck represents a significant milestone in the construction industry’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The collaboration between the local council, construction company Hanson UK, and electric vehicle manufacturer Renault Trucks has resulted in the successful development and testing of an electric mixer truck capable of emitting zero emissions while delivering concrete.

The Cement and Concrete Association (CCA) and Tarmac conducted rigorous tests and trials on the electric mixer truck to ensure that it could perform as well as its diesel-powered counterparts. The trials were conducted on various construction sites, and the results demonstrated that the electric mixer truck could perform as well as diesel-powered mixers while emitting no harmful emissions.

The electric mixer truck has a range of up to 120 km (74.5 miles) and can carry up to 4 cubic meters of concrete. The truck is powered by a 300 kW electric motor and has a battery capacity of 200 kWh. The battery can be charged in as little as two hours, enabling the truck to be used for extended periods.

The success of the trials and tests is a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions in the construction industry. Electric vehicles are gaining traction as a viable alternative to traditional diesel-powered vehicles, and the use of electric mixer trucks could significantly reduce carbon emissions in the construction sector.

Hanson UK has set a target to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and is investing in electric vehicles and other low-carbon technologies to achieve this goal. The company plans to add more electric vehicles to its fleet in the coming years and is committed to reducing its carbon footprint.

The successful launch of the all-electric concrete mixer truck in the UK is not only an essential step towards reducing carbon emissions but also a demonstration of the country’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally-friendly solutions. The construction industry is a significant contributor to carbon emissions, and the use of electric vehicles is a critical step towards achieving the UK’s carbon reduction targets.

The launch of the all-electric concrete mixer truck represents a significant milestone in the development and adoption of electric vehicles in the construction industry. With ongoing investments and advancements in electric vehicle technology, it is likely that more electric vehicles will be deployed in the construction sector, leading to a significant reduction in carbon emissions and a more sustainable future for the industry.
