Instead, the Panel’s primary function is to compile comprehensive reports that identify consensus and research gaps within the scientific community regarding climate change.
These reports, often released at intervals, have been pivotal in shaping climate policies worldwide. For instance, the IPCC’s report titled AR6 Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability, published in February 2022, provided an exhaustive analysis of the imminent effects of climate change and the urgent need for adaptation. Following this, in April 2022, another seminal report was published, AR6 Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change. This report highlighted potential strategies to counter the dire effects of climate change, focusing on mitigation measures.
The IPCC’s robust reporting history includes the 2019 special report on The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate. This report underscored the significant impact of climate change on our oceans and the cryosphere – the frozen parts of the planet. Another crucial addition to this series was the Methodology Report on Short-lived Climate Forcers, released in June 2020.
