Climate action advocates Jane Kleeb and Gita Syahrani have recently been announced as recipients of substantial grants from Climate Breakthrough, a group dedicated to supporting innovative climate action projects. Each of these environmental defenders will receive a $3 million grant, with the possibility of an additional $600,000 as a matching grant.

Jane Kleeb is a well-respected figure in the climate action movement, serving as the chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party and the founder of Bold Nebraska. She has been a prominent leader in environmental protests, playing a significant role in the opposition against the Keystone XL pipeline and carbon dioxide-capturing pipelines. Reflecting her dedication to a sustainable future, Kleeb plans to utilize her grant from Climate Breakthrough to create a clean energy dividend for rural residents. Moreover, she also aims to promote clean-energy projects, contributing to the reduction of carbon footprint and fostering sustainable development.

On the other side of the globe, Gita Syahrani is an Indonesian environmentalist who has made significant strides in forest and peatland conservation. Her work has been instrumental in preserving these valuable ecosystems, which are vital in combating climate change due to their ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide. Syahrani intends to use her grant to spearhead 100 nature-based businesses in regions rich in forests and peatlands by 2026. These businesses are expected to be symbiotic with their environment, promoting economic growth while maintaining, or even enhancing, the health of the local ecosystem.

In addition to these business ventures, Syahrani will also use a portion of her grant to run a public awareness campaign. This initiative will be a significant component of her conservation efforts, aiming to educate the public about the importance of preserving forests and peatlands and promoting sustainable living.

The generous grants provided by Climate Breakthrough will undoubtedly enable both Jane Kleeb and Gita Syahrani to further their already impressive efforts in combating climate change. Their work serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of grassroot movements in the fight for a greener, more sustainable future.
