Amazon has launched Bedrock, a new suite of generative AI tools for businesses using AWS data servers. Bedrock enables users to access different machine-learning models to generate specific outputs for their respective businesses. The focus on generative AI is in line with Amazon CEO’s commitment to invest heavily in transformative tools.
Microsoft and Google have also launched their own versions of AI chatbots this year. However, the preview of Amazon’s generative AI toolkit is currently only available to select AWS customers.
Bedrock allows customers to build generative AI-powered apps using pre-trained models from third-party providers hosted on AWS. This includes access to AWS’ in-house Titan FMs models, which include a text-generating model and an embedding model. AWS customers can customize any Bedrock model by pointing the service at a few labeled examples in Amazon S3, with no customer data used to train the underlying models.
The generative AI market, which Bedrock is aimed at, could be worth close to $110 billion by 2030, according to Grand View Research. AWS is also making its AI-powered code-generating service, CodeWhisperer, free of charge to developers.
AWS Bedrock allows users to build generative models from foundation models, such as GPT-4, and customize them with their own data. Amazon also announced Titan, which includes two new foundational models developed by Amazon Machine Learning, one of which is a fine-tuned version used to surface search results on the company’s homepage.
Bedrock integrates popular models like Jurassic-2 and Claude, as well as provides API access to Stability AI’s models, including Stable Diffusion, a text-to-image generator. Amazon hopes to rival Google’s Bard and Microsoft/OpenAI’s ChatGPT with Bedrock and Titan. Chinese tech companies like Baidu and Alibaba are also entering the generative AI space.
Bedrock is a significant move by Amazon to expand its AI offerings and compete with other tech giants in the generative AI market. The company’s focus on customization and accessibility for customers is a positive step towards democratizing AI and making it more accessible to businesses of all sizes.
