Arla Foods, a leading global dairy producer, has recently launched the FarmAhead Customer Partnership program. The initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of dairy farming and cater to growing customer demands for eco-friendly dairy products. In this stride towards sustainability, Arla acknowledges its responsibility to combat climate change and makes a significant global impact.

The FarmAhead program will encompass Arla’s entire 200 million kilograms of fresh milk pool in the Danish retail and foodservice segment. Retail and foodservice customers are given the opportunity to partner with Arla on climate reduction initiatives and gain access to crucial data for their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and scope 3 climate goals.

The FarmAhead program isn’t wholly new to Arla’s sustainability agenda. It was first launched in the UK in 2023 and has been earmarked for expansion to Arla’s other core European markets in 2024.

Envisioning a greener future, Arla aims to become carbon net zero by 2050. The dairy giant has chalked out plans to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 63 per cent and scope 3 emissions by 30 per cent per ton of raw milk and whey intake by 2030.

To make its operations more environmentally friendly, Arla has set specific climate targets. These include achieving 100 per cent recyclable packaging, completely eliminating virgin fossil-based plastic on its own brands by 2030, and halving food waste by 2030.

In a significant move, Arla has joined the ranks of global companies such as IKEA, L’Oréal, Unilever, and Mastercard in signing the World Federation of Advertisers’ Planet Pledge. By doing so, Arla commits to promoting attitudes and behaviors in harmony with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and supporting the Race to Zero initiative.

Through the FarmAhead Customer Partnership program and its other sustainability initiatives, Arla Foods reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and sets a notable example in the global dairy industry.
