At the recently held annual Samsung Foundry Forum (SFF) U.S., Samsung Electronics took center stage to unveil its latest foundry innovations and vision for Artificial Intelligence (AI). The tech giant showcased its advanced 2nm and 4nm process nodes, and the Samsung AI Solutions, demonstrating its commitment to driving technological advancements.
The company also revealed a bolstered process technology roadmap. The roadmap introduces two new nodes, SF2Z and SF4U, signifying Samsung’s continuous strive for innovation. Furthermore, the company announced the integration of Samsung AI Solutions, a platform that merges the strengths of its Foundry, Memory, and Advanced Package businesses. The move is expected to fuel AI advancements and offer optimized solutions.
Samsung’s new 2nm process, dubbed SF2Z, is a game-changer. It employs optimized backside power delivery network technology, enhancing power, performance, and area. The technology also reduces voltage drop, making it ideal for high-performance computing designs. On the other hand, the 4nm variant, SF4U, promises performance improvements by incorporating optical shrink. Samsung plans to start mass production of SF4U by 2025.
The tech giant also confirmed its progress on the 1.4nm process, SF1.4. With an ambitious timeline, Samsung aims to start mass production of SF1.4 in 2027. This once again underscores the company’s dedication to continuous innovation and advancement in semiconductor technology.
The newly launched Samsung AI Solutions is a turnkey AI platform. It integrates the unique strengths of the company’s Foundry, Memory, and AVP businesses. The platform is designed to offer tailored solutions to meet specific customer AI requirements, reflecting the company’s customer-centric approach.
Dr. Siyoung Choi, President of Samsung Electronics Foundry Business, highlighted the importance of advanced semiconductor solutions in driving AI innovations. He particularly emphasized Samsung’s proprietary gate-all-around technology, which is optimized for AI chips. According to Dr. Choi, this groundbreaking technology is a key enabler of AI innovations.
